Nearly 200 years after it was distilled, the world's oldest whisky was discovered in the cellar of a Scottish castle. Around 40 bottles of the whisky, distilled in 1833 and bottled in 1841, were discovered behind a hidden cellar door in Perthshire's Blair Castle.

According to reports, the whisky was discovered by a resident trustee at Blair Castle in the back of a shelf in the 750-year-old castle. Two dozen bottles of the whisky will be auctioned off at Perth-based Whisky Auctioneer between November 24 and December 4. Each bottle is expected to fetch around £10,000.

An Association With A Queen

According to experts, the Scotch could have been consumed by a young Queen Victoria. That's because Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert, visited and stayed at Blair Castle in 1844.

Scotland And Whisky

Scotland is known for the finest whiskies. It was just a couple of years back that renowned whiskey brand Sotheby's put up The Red Collection for auction. Named after the legendary Scottish distillery The Macallan's founder, the classic aged collection of whiskies included The Macallan 40 Years Old, The Macallan 50 Years Old, and The Macallan 60 Years Old, which are joined by two highly aged bottles at 71 Years Old and 74 Years Old.

It doesn't seem like an exorbitant sum when you consider that rare Macallan bottlings from the mid-1900s have recently fetched ten times that amount. The final bottle in The Red Collection had been matured for 78 years, making it not only The Macallan distillery's oldest bottle but also the oldest age statement whisky ever offered at an auction.

Whisky And Kit Kat

Kit Kat is well-known for experimenting with flavours. They're a bit of a thing in Japan, with a variety of rather unique regional flavours like cherry blossom. In 2021, the brand launched a whisky-flavoured special edition featuring cacao nibs aged for six months in wooden whiskey barrels from Scotland's famous Island of Islay.
