The United States has officially released crucial information regarding the H-1B non-immigrant visa renewal pilot program, setting the stage for eligible candidates to prepare for the application process. The program, scheduled to kick off in January 2024, is geared towards a quota of 20,000 individuals, exclusively open to Indians and Canadians who meet specified eligibility requirements.

Application Dates and Process

The Department of State will begin accepting applications for the H-1B pilot program from January 29 to April 1, 2024, signaling a three-month application window. Additionally, the department has stipulated a deadline of midnight on April 15, 2024, for written comments and related materials.

Weekly Allocation for Indian and Canadian Applicants

The program allocates around 4,000 weekly application slots for H-1B visa renewals. Specifically, 2,000 slots are designated for applicants whose latest H-1B visas were issued by Mission Canada, while another 2,000 slots cater to individuals with visas granted by Mission India.

Available Slots and Eligibility Criteria

These slots will be open on specific dates starting from January 29. If your most recent H-1B visa was issued by Mission India, you can apply during these weekly slots.

Eligibility criteria for the H-1B renewal through the pilot program include:

  • Processing exclusively for H-1B visa renewals.

  • Previous H-1B visa issued by Mission Canada between January 1, 2020, and April 1, 2023, or by Mission India from February 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021.

  • No non-immigrant visa issuance fee required.

  • Eligibility for a waiver of the in-person interview.

  • Submission of ten fingerprints to the Department as part of a prior visa application.

  • No 'clearance received' annotation on the prior visa.

  • No visa ineligibility necessitating a waiver for issuance.

  • Holding an approved and unexpired H-1B petition.

  • Most recent entry to the US under H-1B status.

  • Currently maintaining H-1B status in the United States.

  • Period of authorized admission in H-1B status not expired.

  • Intent to reenter the US in H-1B status after a temporary period abroad.

Fee Details

Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable and non-transferable MRV fee of $205.00 through the online portal as part of the application process.
