In a significant development for winter travel in the mountainous Doda district, a subsidised helicopter service has been launched from Jammu, providing a crucial lifeline for the region. The subsidised helicopter service, priced at INR 2,500 per person, marks an affordable and accessible mode of transport for the residents of Doda during the freezing winter months.
The inaugural ceremony in Doda witnessed the presence of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom. The first passengers on this inaugural service included three individuals from Doda, signalling the commencement of this vital initiative.
Overseeing the operations as the designated nodal officer is Assistant Commissioner (Panchayat) Ashfaq Khanji, ensuring the smooth functioning of this essential service. The responsibility of managing the helicopter service has been entrusted to Mumbai-based Global Vectra Private Limited.
Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh underscored the significance of this service, particularly for individuals requiring emergency or time-sensitive travel. The aerial option not only presents an efficient alternative but also eliminates the challenges of the lengthy 180-kilometre road journey during winter.
With the main aim of enhancing connectivity and creating new avenues for tourism, the new subsidised helicopter service from Doda to Jammu is a welcome move for travellers. During the peak of winter, when certain regions face challenges with accessibility, this new service will make commuting more convenient. This initiative not only addresses the immediate travel needs of the residents but also holds the promise of boosting tourism opportunities in the picturesque Doda district during the winter season.
The helicopter service between Doda and Jammu is geared towards enhancing accessibility and fostering winter tourism across the region, efficiently covering a substantial distance of 180 km. For travellers, Doda can be conveniently reached from the Srinagar International Airport (Sheikh ul Alam Airport), situated approximately 205.4 km away. Alternatively, accessibility is also facilitated through Jammu Airport, which is around 162.6 km away and connected via NH 44 and NH 244.
