These 3 South Indian Villages Have Been Declared The Best Tourism Villages

In a momentous achievement for Telangana and Karnataka, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has awarded three villages in South India the prestigious title of "India's Best Tourism Villages." The awards were announced at a ceremony held in Delhi on World Tourism Day (September 27), recognising Nirmal town, Somasila village, and Kuthlur village for their exceptional contributions to rural tourism.

Nirmal Town

Nirmal town, located in Telangana's Nirmal district, was recognised as the Best Tourism Village for its rich heritage of traditional crafts. The town, renowned for its 400-year-old tradition of Nirmal paintings and wooden toys, has made significant strides in preserving and promoting this cultural art form. Nirmal's long-standing craftsmanship, passed down through generations, was pivotal in earning this accolade. The award was accepted by Nirmal Additional Collector Faizan Ahmed and Nirmal Toys Arts Society president S Pentaiah on behalf of the state.

Somasila

Somasila village, situated along the tranquil banks of the Krishna River in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district, took home the award in the Spiritual Wellness category. Known for its serene environment and spiritual significance, Somasila offers travellers a peaceful escape and a unique, offbeat experience. With its newfound recognition, Somasila is poised to become a must-visit destination for those seeking spiritual solace. T Narasimha, Nagarkurnool district tourism development officer, received the award.

Kuthlur Village

Kuthlur village, nestled in the Belthangady taluk at the foothills of the Western Ghats, was awarded the title of Best Tourism Village in the Adventure Tourism category. Known for its pristine landscapes and thrilling outdoor activities, Kuthlur is now officially on India's adventure tourism map. The recognition marks a significant achievement for this offbeat destination, which will surely attract a wave of adventure enthusiasts.

The awards were presented by Union Minister of Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar. These accolades are part of the second edition of the Ministry of Tourism's Best Tourism Villages Competition, an initiative to promote rural tourism and sustainable practices nationwide. With 991 villages from 30 states and union territories participating this year, 36 villages were declared winners across eight categories, further cementing the importance of rural tourism in India.
