The Southern Railway Salem Division has announced the revival of a special mountain train service in Tamil Nadu's picturesque Nilgiris district. Set to operate between Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor-Ooty, this seasonal service is tailored to attract foreign tourists seeking a unique summer escapade.
Starting from March 29 and running until July 1, the special mountain train will traverse the breathtaking route, providing a unique experience for passengers. The Nilgiris district, renowned as an international tourist destination, anticipates an influx of visitors during the summer, particularly in April and May.
The decision to reintroduce the special mountain train service stems from the UNESCO heritage status of the route, featuring 206 bridges and 16 caves. Travellers can relish the stunning scenery while enjoying the journey through the landscapes of Nilgiris.
During the summer season, the special mountain train will operate between Coonoor and Ooty on four designated days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The Salem Division of Southern Railway has planned departures on Fridays and Sundays for the Mettupalayam-Ooty route and on Saturdays and Sundays for the Ooty-Mettupalayam route.
