If you're planning a trip to London soon and love food, you might want to take advantage of a unique dining opportunity that is available for a short time.
The House of Lords Peers' Dining Room is open to the public for a limited time due to the upcoming general election and the dissolution of Parliament. From June 10 to July 3 (excluding weekends), you can enjoy a three-course lunch menu for £55 (INR 5,869) per person. The menu in the past has included delicious dishes such as Herefordshire beef broth, Brixham lemon sole, Kentish beetroot ravioli, and Plum and Larkswood honey dessert.
Lunch will be served from 12 pm with last orders at 2 pm. The dress code in Peers' Dining Room is smart casual. Men are encouraged to wear collared shirts, long trousers, and shoes. Sportswear and trainers are not permitted in the dining room, and mobile phones should not be used for taking photos of the food. A peculiar rule, which seems rather old-fashioned, is that they only accept reservations for parties of two or more, so solo diners are not permitted.
Discover the summer seasonal menu showcasing exquisite small plates made with the finest British ingredients. Indulge in a perfect pairing of wine, tea or coffee, and delightful petit fours. Arrive early to savor a drink in the Peers' Guest Room Bar with a stunning view of the River Thames.
The House of Lords offers a captivating historical setting for lunch, with the Westminster Hall standing as the oldest sites on the Parliamentary Estate, dating back 900 years. This hall has witnessed pivotal events throughout history, including the coronation banquets of King Henry VIII (1509) and Queen Elizabeth I (1559), as well as the trials of King Charles I (1649) and Gunpowder Plot conspirator Guy Fawkes (1606). Guests can savor their meal in a room adorned with red leather chairs, a wood-panelled ceiling, stained-glass windows, and 19th-century wallpaper, providing an immersive experience.
