The breathtaking hill station of Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir now has one more tourist attraction to its name. The Gulmarg Army Museum was recently inaugurated by Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, the GOC-in-C of Northern Command, to highlight Kashmir’s rich history and the significant role of the Indian Army in the region’s security and development.
Here’s what you should know about this new facility.
Also known as the Gul-A-Seum, the building was designed and built by the Dagger Division and its Himalayan Brigade. The state-of-the-art facility honours the bravery, sacrifice and enduring spirit of the Indian Armed Forces. It offers exhibits on the Indian Army’s contributions during wartime, its role in national development, and the vibrant cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
The museum also reflects on the historical conflicts in Kashmir with Pakistan and China, serving as a testament to the valour of soldiers and the stories of their battles. It holds an extensive collection of artefacts, documents and interactive displays through which visitors can explore the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and learn about the region's unique traditions, art, and historical milestones.
