As the winter season draws near, many eagerly look forward to witnessing snowfall and engaging in various winter activities. Recently, Gulmarg and other elevated areas of Kashmir have been graced with fresh snowfall. The season's inaugural snowfall was reported at Razdan Pass en route to Gurez. Notably, Gulmarg, Sinthan Top, and other high-altitude regions of Kashmir have experienced fresh snow, indicating an early onset of winter in the area. This sudden change in weather has resulted in a significant temperature drop, leading to cold and frosty nights.

The Onset Of Winter

Reports say that Gulmarg encountered a light snowfall overnight, causing the temperature in the hill station to plummet, thus creating a wintry ambience. The fresh snow has brought immense joy to tourists visiting Gulmarg; many were initially expecting to witness autumnal hues but were pleasantly surprised by the enchanting snow-covered landscape. Furthermore, Sinthan Top in South Kashmir also witnessed substantial snowfall, sparking enthusiasm among tourists planning to visit Kashmir in the forthcoming months. The arrival of snow signifies the beginning of a colder climate in the area. The renowned Gulmarg ski resort, located in the Baramulla district, was blanketed with a substantial two to three inches of snowfall.

Additionally, there were reports of moderate snowfall at Gurez's Razdan Pass, which connects Bandipora to Gurez, situated near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir. However, the Bandipora-Gurez road remains open for vehicular movement. Additionally, Srinagar and North Kashmir experienced heavy showers last night. The region is currently experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, affecting both the high-altitude areas and the plains. Specifically, Srinagar recorded a low temperature of 8 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Gulmarg dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius overnight. This downward trend is expected to persist in the coming days, signalling the onset of colder weather.

No weather warnings have been issued for the state until October 10, guaranteeing that the region will experience stable conditions in the coming days, with intermittent light showers in select areas.
