All Vehicles Entering Uttarakhand Mandated To Have Dustbins, Garbage Bags

The Uttarakhand government has mandated that all vehicles entering the state must have dustbins and garbage bags installed. This measure aims to maintain the state's cleanliness and protect the region's pristine environment. Before issuing trip cards to vehicles, authorities will ensure compliance with this rule, according to Chief Secretary Radha Raturi.

The State Transport Department has notified the transport commissioners of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh about this requirement, particularly for vehicles coming to Uttarakhand during the Chardham Yatra. Vehicles found without the necessary waste disposal facilities will be fined. Tour operators, travel agencies, and the general public are being informed about this regulation, with officials conducting checks to ensure adherence.

Raturi emphasized the collective responsibility of both residents and tourists in maintaining Uttarakhand's natural cleanliness, highlighting the state's popularity as a weekend destination. Similarly, Sikkim has recently implemented a rule requiring tourist vehicles to carry large garbage bags to promote environmental sustainability. Non-compliance will result in fines, as stated by Sikkim's Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.
