The coastal state of Goa recently participated in the World Travel Market (WTM) in UK's London from November 6 to 8. The objective was to showcase Goa as a year-round tourism destination and promote it beyond its beaches, focusing on facets like Eco-Tourism, Hinterland Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Sports Tourism, Festival Tourism, Cuisine, and Cultural Tourism.
The participation aimed to attract UK and European tourists to experience Goan festivities, heritage, adventure activities, and spa services. To attract more European visitors, the officials also promoted the e-tourist visa facility available at Goa International Airport in Dabolim and Manohar International Airport in Mopa, North Goa.
Goa's Minister of Tourism, Rohan A. Khaunte, who attended the event with other officials, said, "Goa's participation in WTM London demonstrates our commitment to positioning Goa as a premier travel destination on the global map. We look forward to forging strategic partnerships with international travel organisations and attracting more tourists to experience the magic of Goa. I warmly invite travel enthusiasts and industry professionals to visit Goa's pavilion at WTM London and discover the incredible diversity and beauty of 'India's Sunshine State' firsthand."
Goa Tourism representatives showcased a range of experiences at the World Travel Mart, focusing on practices like spice plantations, wildlife sanctuaries, and eco-tourism. In line with the state's "Beyond Beaches" theme, they emphasised sustainable development practices, focus on women empowerment, infrastructure improvements, and exploration of lesser-known destinations.
They highlighted newly launched homestays and caravan policies, signalling Goa's tourism potential beyond its coastlines. Moreover, they emphasised their position as a MICE tourism destination, offering quality services through hotels and convention centres.
Goa Tourism places significant emphasis on tourist safety, providing the Goa Tourism Helpline (1364) for assistance. The beaches benefit from 676 lifeguards who patrol until midnight, ensuring a secure environment. An exclusive women's taxi service caters to women tourists' transportation needs.
Regarding beach upkeep, Goa takes pride in its beaches, which are recognised as among the best in India, Asia, and worldwide. The Comprehensive Beach Cleaning Management Plan and other initiatives maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance. Implemented mechanisms for collection, segregation, and disposal have yielded positive outcomes.
