Uttarakhand&rsquos annual Tehri Lake Festival, which will be held in the middle of March this year, will focus more on adventure sports, according to reports. The state tourism department in collaboration with the Tehri Special Area Tourism Development Authority has planned a variety of adventure sports activities, including, including paragliding, hot air ballooning, paramotoring, parasailing, scuba diving, kayaking and canoeing, rock climbing, etc. Experts from abroad will demonstrate their skills in these sporting activities. Visitors will also have opportunities to participate in the activities.
According to media reports, the authorities expect a large number of guests from home and abroad to attend this festival to be held between March 17 and 19, 2020. Hence, there will be tented accommodation for those who want to stay at the site. Besides adventure sports, there will be cultural and other programmes.
The Tehri Lake, part of the Tehri Dam located in the Garhwal Himalaya, was formed when the old town was submerged by the construction of the dam on the Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. The New Tehri town is the gateway to this picturesque lake. By road, New Tehri town is 110km from Dehra Dun and 300km from New Delhi. The nearest airport Jolly Grant is connected to New Delhi. The nearest railhead is Rishikesh. Taxis are available for the onward road journey.
