The United States has decided to keep India in its advisory on a list of countries Americans should avoid due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Pakistan and Bangladesh were taken off from the list. India currently sits in the level 4 category of &lsquoDo Not Travel&rsquo due to rising number of cases.

The US had started working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in August, discontinuing pandemic-related global travel advisories and had switched to a country-specific system.

Most countries had started off at the category of &lsquoLevel 4 Do Not Travel&rsquo. On Wednesday, Pakistan and Bangladesh and four other countries moved to the category of less prohibitive &lsquoLevel 3 reconsider travel&rsquo, with Benin, Kuwait, Mexico, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines being the other four.

The CDC has advised American travellers that &ldquoCovid-19 risk in India is high. If you get sick in India and need medical care, resources may be limited."

Meanwhile, &ldquodo not travel to India due to Covid-19,&rdquo read the department&rsquos travel advisory page, which also said, &ldquoexercise increased caution in India due to crime and terrorism.&rdquo

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 43,70,128 as 89,706 new cases were reported on Wednesday. The death count stood at 1,115 in 24 hours, taking the toll to 73,890.
