Due to the emergence of new mutations of the coronavirus, the UK government has imposed restrictions on travellers coming from outside the country.

Travellers visiting UK have to carry a negative COVID test 72 hours prior on their arrival in the country. Apart from showing a negative result, travellers are being asked to isolate for 10 days.  It is mandatory for them to take COVID-19 tests again on the 2nd day and on the 8th day of their isolation period. And they have to pay each time, a COVID-19 test in the UK costs about 100 Euros.

According to the announcement made by the British government, the country is trying to contain the virus and keep away virus mutations (Brazilian and South African ones) from entering the country. &ldquoEnhancing our testing regime to cover all arrivals while they isolate will provide a further level of protection and enable us to better track any new cases which might be brought into the country, and give us even more opportunities to detect new variants,&rdquo said Matt Hancock, the health secretary in a formal announcement, reported The Telegraph India.

About 33 countries including Brazil and Argentina, fall under the 'red list' created by the British government, where the restrictions imposed on international travellers are more stringent.

Moreover, currently non-UK travellers from the list are banned from travelling to the UK until further notice. However, UK nationals are allowed to enter the country, with a negative COVID test, and will have to go into the 10-day quarantine at government approved hotels.

To ensure that the quarantine rules are followed by hotel staff and travellers, guards will be appointed by the government at each quarantine centre to patrol the hotels and make sure all the restrictions are followed.
