The Kalka Shimla heritage train ride is back, and how.

The Ambala Division of the Northern Railway Zone introduced a hop-on, hop-off Kalka-Shimla train service - on a single ticket, valid for a full calendar day.

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2018, the 118-year-old narrow gauge railway section is also listed under the &lsquoMountain Railways Of India&rsquo.

The ride was always a joy but now with the new service, the toy train that traverses through 16 stations before reaching its final destination - Shimla, will allow you to visit all tourist attractions on a single ticket which can be purchased from any station of the Kalka-Shimla rail section.

The fare structure for the hop-on, hop-off Kalka-Shimla heritage train service for one calendar day is Rs 500 for an adult and Rs 250 for a child (5 -12 years old). For two calendar days, the fare is Rs 800 and Rs 400 for adults and children respectively. Add one more day to your two-day trip and the fare increases to Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 for adults and children respectively.

You can board/deboard any coach from/at any station subject to availability of seats and the schedule of the train. However, the ticket fare does not include other paid/value added services and the ticket is also non-transferable and non-refundable.

The 96km rail route which falls under the UNESCO World Heritage Site now has another speciality apart from its historical significance and the scenic panorama. IRCTC has gifted the passengers travelling in the Kalka-Shimla toy train with internet facility at all of its fifteen stops. The toy train which takes the visitors through some breathtaking sites is a common attraction for the thrill seekers. Now you can keep your friends updated about your journey by sharing the experiences instantaneously in the social media, just wait till the next stop.
