Seaplane Shuttle for Statue of Unity

Gujarat will soon have a seaplane service. Leading airline SpiceJet is all set to start operations for its 19-seater seaplane from October 31. The seaplane will link the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity.

The seaplane had landed in Kochi on October 26 for a transit halt after it took off from Male in Maldives. The landing was attended by the representatives of SpiceJet, Cochin International Airport Limited, Indian Navy and the Kochi district administration.

According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seaplane on October 31 which marks the 146th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The service will be used for flights as a part of regional connectivity scheme between the  Sabarmati riverfront and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel&rsquos Statue of Unity.

The seaplane is a Twin Otter 300 and will be operated by SpiceJet under its seaplane service SpiceShuttle. Four daily flights will be available which can accommodate 12 passengers at the cost of Rs 4,800 per person.

The distance between Ahmedabad and Kevadia is around 200 kilometres. The seaplane will take about 45 minutes to cover the distance.
