Ladakh is getting new and modernised roads leading up to the Siachen glacier, considered the world&rsquos highest battlefield. Due to bad weather conditions and snowfall for the better part of the year, construction in the region is a long and arduous process. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), under Project Vijayak, has embarked on a journey to modernise existing roads and is building new ones to improve the movement of troops and equipment to the Siachen base camp. The project focuses on the roads to and from Panamic village to the Siachen camp as well as all the interior roads leading up to it. The BRO will implement technology that will enable the roads to withstand the adverse conditions and meet the requirements of the defence forces and locals alike. The BRO is also replacing an existing suspension bridge at the Siachen base camp to better mobilise heavy machinery and equipment.
