Prague was a bustling hotspot for European tourists before it went into lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic. Now, thanks to &lsquoPrague Unlocked&rsquo campaign, the city is springing back into action again.
According to data, almost 60,000 people, mainly from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Slovakia, visited the metropolis for a holiday in the past few months.
The success rate of this highly hopeful tourism scenario has led to the Prague City Tourism to extend the campaign until the end of this year.
The campaign was launched in July to restart the tourism industry in the metropolis, which had come to a complete standstill overnight. Under the campaign, tourists could avail free tickets to the Old Town Hall, galleries or choose to go on guided tours across the city. According to officials, the campaign vastly benefited the city.
The free tickets gave access to almost 80 tourist attractions, while more than 400 accommodation facilities took part in the campaign. The Prague Zoo, Prague Castle and the Petrin Tower, were the most visited places.
Meanwhile, the famous Mariánské Námestí square in front of Prague&rsquos City Hall is getting a facelift to make it more tourist-friendly. The new square will get newly planted maple trees, benches, and water fountains. According to the planners, the new square will be a place of rest and a zone for cultural events. The overhaul will add to the metropolis&rsquo tourism appeal, as the city council plans to increase visitors to the region.
