Plans For Andamans To Get Major Makeover

Pristine blue waters, unimaginable underwater life, white sandy beaches and warm locals--a holiday in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is worth all the planning. 

While the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are gorgeous in their own right, the government's latest proposed plan is to make the picturesque location even more attraction Yes, you heard that right.

The government is planning a major makeover for the island destination, in lines of competing with tourism that is prevalent in other island nations like the Maldives and Mauritius. New nature trails and camping facilities are also on the card to give the Andamans an edge over the closest rivals. The project, which is predicted to cost almost Rs650 crores, aims to generate local employment with its expansion and growth programmes.Up to 60 per cent of locals are said to benefit. The plan also includes more beach shacks, tree houses, beach resorts and putting up turtle observatory centres. And if the rumours are correct, then you may soon be able to indulge in a range of water sports-related activities. 

If the islands aren't your calling, spend your time at Port Blair looking at important historical landmarks like the Cellular Jail. There's also remnants of British architecture on the now uninhabitated Ross Island which was bombed by the Japanese during WWII.
