The Elephanta Caves, located 10 KMs away from Mumbai, on an island of Gharapuri will soon only be 15 minutes away. Normally taking upto an hour to reach by sea, the new ropeway is sure to be a breath of fresh air for those who plan to visit this UNESCO World Heritage site.
The central government has sanctioned a 8-KM long ropeway connecting the financial capital of India, Mumbai, to the Elephanta caves. While the estimated date of completion for the project is set for 2022, four years from now, it is sure to be a source of happiness for the locals.
The plan is to build the ropeway over the Arabian Sea. The Mumbai Port Trust has taken up the project which is set to construct India&rsquos first ropeway over the sea. A spokesperson of the trust added that the construction will take place at a significant height of 50-100 meters. Promising an unforgettable view of the city and the ocean, the trust is confident that the project will see visitors in larger numbers making their way to this historic location.
Each cablecar will have the ability to accommodate upto 35 people at peak traffic. Furthermore, each car will be air-conditioned and there will also be added communication facility within.
