The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued new guidelines easing quarantine norms for travellers from abroad. &nbspAs per the new set of guidelines, the 14-day mandatory quarantine will be halved to 7 days in institutional quarantine at their own cost, followed by 7 days of self-monitored isolation period at home.

According to the ministry, all travellers will have to fill self-declaration forms on the online portal &mdash www.newdelhiairport.in &mdash at least 72 hours before scheduled travel. Passengers with "compelling reasons&rdquo (which include pregnancy, death in the family, serious illness, and travelling with children of under 10 years) can apply for exemption from the mandatory quarantine here.

Travellers can also submit a negative RTPCR test report upon arrival to seek exemption from the institutional quarantine. The test must be conducted within 96 hours prior to the flight, and should also be uploaded on the portal for consideration. The self-declaration form filled online should be shown to the airport health staff.

Travellers who have not filled the online form shall fill the same in duplicate in the flight or on the online portal on arriving airport, as per the directions of the authorities concerned.

Thermal screening of all passengers will be carried out by the health officials present at the airport. Post thermal screening, the passengers who have been exempted from institutional quarantine will be allowed to proceed for home quarantine for 14 days. The remaining passengers shall be taken to the institutional quarantine facilities, to be arranged by the respective state&rsquos government.

Earlier, passengers were required to register with the Indian embassy in their respective country. However, now the online form all is all that one needs to fill in. This new set of guidelines will come into effect from August 8, superseding the ones issued on May 24.

Passengers arriving through land borders will also need to follow the same protocol, and only those who are asymptomatic will be allowed to cross the border.
