Nagaland gave us good news on the World Environment Day when it announced that one of the state's most visited destinations, Dzukuo Valley, is all set to become a plastic-free zone. The initiative was taken by Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO). The organisation spearheaded, along with the locals, the mass clean-up of Dzukuo Valley and pledged to protect the environment. This is also a message to tourists from all over the world who are planning to visit the valley to be mindful about what they leave behind. Keeping the littering factor in mind, from now on two entry points in southern Dzukuo will be kept under check. Visitors to Dzukuo Valley can check out the rules and regulations mentioned on the newly erected monolith on one of the gates to the valley.
Dzukuo Valley straddles the two states of Nagaland and Manipur and is one of the most visited sites in India. Known especially for trekking and the natural beauty of the place, the site sees a lot of foot traffic during the peak season. The vast undulating valley is also home to many varieties of wild flowers.
