The transportation that freed commuters and tourists from the hassle (at least for the most part) of the locals a few years ago, the Mumbai Metro One has something new up its sleeve again. The Reliance Infrastructure-powered project has now launched an innovative smart card to further ease the commute for its travellers.

The new 2-in-1 metro cards are multipurpose, and no longer need to be taken to the station counters to be recharged. In fact, commuters can easily refill them by simply transferring money from their bank accounts or debit cards to the smart cards.

With almost 4.5 lakh passengers travelling every day from Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar, the 12 stations are crowded with people queuing up to buy tickets and refill their closed-loop cards. This function of the new card, however, eliminates the long lines at the ticket counters. Not only that, the new technology enables travellers to use the pre-paid smart cards in the same manner as a debit or ATM card. Travellers and locals alike can now conveniently swap the same card for shopping and paying bills in the big city.

Collaborating with The Mobile Wallet Fintech Pvt. Ltd has helped make the new cards suitable to the needs of everyday users as well as the tourists. The twin usage smart cards are now available at a very cheap rate, at the customer care counters of all Metro One stations. The cost of each card is @INR 50.
