The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is introducing two new resorts in Pune&rsquos Akkalkot and Sinhagad Fort. The addition will allow tourists to avail better accommodation and services in the region.
Around 35 km from Pune on the Bhuleswar range of the Sahyadris, Sinhagad is a hill fortress that's built at 1,312 metres above sea level. The fort was formerly named Kondhana and has a history of more than 2,000 years.
A resort that was formerly on lease at the fort had to be shut down for a year after its lease expired. However, the administration has now upgraded the site and will soon open the new property.
The project is expected to be ready in the coming weeks, most of the construction has already been completed. Once all the finishing touches are done, the launch date will also be revealed to the tourists.
Recognised as a popular tourist point in the state, the Sinhagad fort welcomes throngs of trekkers and families every year. Taking into consideration the travellers' accommodation needs, the resort has been designed with two dorm rooms comprising eight beds and three suites.
As soon as the resort becomes operational, trekkers planning to scale Raigad and Torna peaks will also be able to book rooms online on the MTDC website. However, the accommodation charges are yet to be determined.
The MTDC will be establishing another beautiful resort at the Akkalkot city near Pune. The place is a major attraction among the devotees of Swami Samarth Maharaj, who visit the city every year, and tourists who drop by the famous Khaja Daud Dargah.
