Have you heard that the MoMA is reopening New York is all to set to witness a refurbished Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) with expanded galleries and spaces for performance, conversation, and art making. MoMA will be open to the public from October 21, 2019, showing off a re-imagined presentation of modern and contemporary art.
The expansion, developed by MoMA with architects Diller Scofidio Renfro, in collaboration with Gensler, adds more than 40,000 sq ft of gallery space and enables the museum to exhibit more in new and interdisciplinary ways.
&ldquoThe real value of this expansion is not more space, but space that allows us to rethink the experience of art in the Museum,&rdquo said Glenn D. Lowry, The David Rockefeller Director.
Amongst the changes made at the museum, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio in the heart of the Museum will feature live programming and performances that react to, question, and challenge histories of modern art and the current cultural moment. This new space for live and experimental programming will let the visitors directly engage with artists and works in process and see pivotal and emerging works in dialogue.
An innovative second-floor Creativity Lab for education will also invite visitors to connect with art that explores new ideas about the present, past, and future and will allow them to participate in lively conversations, engage with artists, make art, reflect and relax, and find suggestions for exploring the Museum.
Apart from that, street-level galleries, free and open to all on the expanded ground floor, will better connect the Museum to New York City and bring art closer to people on the streets of midtown Manhattan.
