Under Unlock 4, the Indian Railways is planning to launch 100 new passenger trains to meet the increasing inter and intra state travel demands.
The Railway Ministry would be seeking a green signal from the Home Ministry for the launch of these &lsquospecial trains&rsquo. The 100 trains would be followed by 20 more to facilitate travel on certain routes where trains are already operational.
Earlier, the Indian Railways announced that all regular passenger trains will remain suspended until further notice. However, with the implementation of Unlock 4, the scenario is set to change dramatically. To ease into normalcy, interstate travelling will have no restrictions and no registration or e-passes will be needed.
At present, 230 special trains are being operated to facilitate travel between the states. While 30 Rajdhani-type trains were started initially after relaxing the lockdown, the railways has added 200 more trains since June 1.
Under Unlock 4, metro trains will also start operating in a &lsquograded manner&rsquo from September 7.
