The In-flight and Maritime Connectivity (IFMC) would allow the partnership of the shipping and airline companies with any licensed telecom agency of India to provide in-flight and maritime voice and data facilities to the passengers in India. Telecom companies can provide their services through satellite or ground networks. The satellite services can only be obtained after getting approval from the Department of Space. The IFMC facility would be accessible only within the Indian airspace and once the flight reaches an altitude of 3000 metres in order to prevent network intersection with the terrestrial ones. The service provider has to pay @INR 1 annually for ten years for the license and pay the spectrum fee according to the revenue they get from the customers.
