As COVID-19 cases rise in Kolkata, the state government has announced a fresh set of lockdowns for August. And along with that, it has also stated that flight operations will be suspended during the days of complete lockdown. The revised lockdown dates in August are 5, 8, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31.

This is the fourth time the state government has changed lockdown dates. Earlier, the state had imposed a bi-weekly lockdown to curb the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The changes have been a great inconvenience for many passengers who have been booking, cancelling, and re-booking flights.

If you are planning to fly to Kolkata, keep these dates in mind to avoid any last-minute hassles.

The state has also extended the ban on passenger flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Nagpur, till August 15.

On Thursday (July 6), the state recorded almost 3,000 cases in a day for the first time, with a record 2,954 infections taking the case count to 86,754, while 56 deaths pushed up the toll to 1,902. The increase is also because of the renewed emphasis on testing.&nbspChief Minister Mamata Banerjee had set the target of testing 25,000 samples a day by August 15. &ldquoMany states are decreasing their number of tests, but we are increasing it. We want to identify more patients and to take control of the situation. So, we are giving more emphasis on increasing testing and tracing,&rdquo Banerjee said in a statement to the press on August 6.
