No two Indian cities have a greater love-loathe relationship than Delhi & Mumbai, and here&rsquos something to bring them closer. An expressway is being built to connect Mumbai to Delhi, cutting the distance time to merely 12 hours. If you&rsquove travelled between the two cities by road before, you would know that it takes approximately 24 hours to travel by NH-8. Currently the distance is 1,450km to connect Mumbai with Delhi by road, and the expressway project will reduce that to 1,250km.

As per reports, the project was initially proposed to connect Mumbai with Gurugram as part of the Greenfield expressway project. This would connect the cities by stretching across several states, including two backward states of Dahod in Gujarat and Mewat in Haryana. The whole route would be Delhi-Gurugram-Mewat-Kota-Ratlam-Godhra-Vadodara-Surat-Dahisar &ndashMumbai. However, as per this report by Times of India, the project has now been extended till Delhi and Noida. The 8-lane road will start from the Western Peripheral Expressway and stretch until the DND (Delhi-Noida-Drive).

The aim is to ease the congestion faced currently on the NH-8, which has a traffic of about 3,00,000 vehicles every day. The mega project will involve heavy funds for construction, approximately @INR 20 billion, and that doesn&rsquot account for the cost of land acquisition.

So when can we expect for this to take off At least 3 years. The construction will begin in December 2018, as per the Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari.

This is an exciting piece of news for commuters, regardless of which side of the camp they belong to.
