Denmark has restricted travellers from all countries, and advised its citizens against travelling abroad in a bid to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and its mutated variants.

According to reports, this ban will extend its scope till January 17, and is subject to an extension.

At the moment, no traces of the South African variant have entered Denmark&rsquos borders, or been reported by authorities. However, it is predicted that the British coronavirus variant will come to the fore by mid-February.

Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod told reporters on Friday that the travel measures were &ldquoa logical consequence of the domestic measures taken by the government in the last few days&rdquo. This move emerges from a decision to reinforce a stricter lockdown in the country.

According to Transport Minister Benny Engelbrecht, starting Friday, only individuals with a credible purpose, and a negative COVID-19 test no older than 24 hours will be permitted to access the country.
