This coastal area in Italy, popularly known as the Cinque Terre, takes trekking pretty seriously and for this reason it has a rule that doesn't allow visitors to wear flip-flops, pumps or sandals while trekking in the region. An appropriate footwear will cost you a fine. Before we get to the fine and the reason why, let's see what Cinque Terra is all about. The coastal area comprises of five spectacular villages that are surrounded by the sea on one side and hills on the other. The geography makes it a perfect tourist destination. The rugged and steep landscape attracts a lot of hikers, some rather ill-prepared. The villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore are accessible by rugged paths, train and boat.
The attractive hiking trails around these villages also attract some less-than careful hikers who don't bother wearing appropriate footwear. As a result there have been numerous cases of stranded hikers unable to move on, quite literally. And all these because of them flip-flops, pumps and sandals. Che casino
So if you don't want to pay a fine of an amount that can range anywhere between @INR3890 to @INR1,95,000, just wear the right shoes. On a more serious note, a moment of frivolity can land you in serious trouble when it comes to safety. It is wiser to avoid such incidents.
