Ride The Waves Attend The Covelong Surf Festival In Chennai This Weekend

The 6th Edition of the annual surfing, music, and yoga extravaganza, Covelong Point Surf.Music.Yoga festival, is all set for a gala opening at Kovalam, Chennai. Held between the 17-19 August, the event will host over a 100 surfers from 10 nationalities. &nbspTop surfers from Sri Lanka, Australia, France & USA will be seen in action at the festival along with those from Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, among other places in India.  

Part of a historic agreement agreed between the Surfing Federation of India and Sri Lanka Surfing Federation, the extravaganza is a platform for promoting surfing amongst the youth. Surfers from both countries are encouraged to participate in the official competition across the coasts in both countries. Local boys Sekar Pitchai, Ajeesh Ali will have the honour to be flag bearers for Tamil Nadu. South African cricketing legend Jhonty Rhodes will also be gracing the vent and showing off his surfing skills.

The upcoming event will feature a global music lineup spread across three stages, yoga and meditation classes and alternative healing workshops. The annual event attracts thousands of attendees every year from across India and the world. There will also be several food stalls, art installations, and beachside activities to participate in alongside a&nbspvibrant flea market where you can shop your heart's desire.

Taking place in Kovalam which is based around the outskirts of Chennai and recognised as India&rsquos &lsquoFirst Surfing Village&rsquo,&nbspthe premier surfing competition will see top men&rsquos and women&rsquos surfers from across several countries vie for the top spots under seven categories in the sport. &nbspThe women&rsquos category will witness a tight contest between Auroville&rsquos Suhasini Damian and Mangalorean Sinchana Gowda. 

The festival will include musical performances from across a wide array of genres ranging from the 90&rsquos Indie-Rock band &lsquoIndus Creed&rsquo to Chennai based electronic band &lsquoSaptha&rsquo as well as the F16s, a Dance/Punk band from Bengaluru, amongst many other performances. 

Yoga is also given a prominence at the festival&nbspwith respected&nbspacro-yoga instructors Shakti Shilpa, Divya Srinivasan and Rohini Manohar taking few yoga sessions at the highly anticipated&nbspextravaganza. 

Getting There&nbspFor International travellers, there are several Arab based airlines do offer direct planes from their native countries to Chennai, but for the majority, one will be required to travel to either Delhi or Mumbai before grabbing a flight to the Tamil Nadu capital city. Once in Chennai, the Kovalam Beach is on the outskirts of the city and a simple cab ride away.
