A Section of the Great Wall of China has Re-Opened to Public

China is showing signs of life (slowly) returning to normal. The lockdown in Hubei has been lifted.&nbspA few nightclubs in Shanghai are open again. Shopping districts have re-opened.

The Great Wall of China,&nbspalso under lockdown, has been opened too. Or at least a part of it has. The famous Badaling section has now been made accessible to public after being closed for two months due to the COVID19 pandemic. However, only 30% of the usual number of visitors will be allowed for the time being.

The most popular section of the Great Wall&mdashthe Badaling section&mdashis about 70 kms from Beijing and is the only section currently accessible to visitors. 

To enter the premises visitors have to book their tickets in advance on the Badaling Great Wall&rsquos website or the WeChat app. Upon registration with their personal information, they will receive a QR health code which will be asked for upon arrival at the UNESCO World Heritage site. Before being permitted in, the QR code has to be green which indicates healthy. China is also resorting to other health measures, such as checking the temperatures of visitors upon their arrival.  

Apart from this, visitors also have to wear masks at all times and should stay at a distance of at least a meter away from each other. A one-way circular tour route has also been put in place to prevent gathering of crowds. 

However, all other sections of the monument remain closed, including the cable car and the museum in Badaling. 

The monument was shut on January 25 due to a steep rise in the number of cases of coronavirus. As the epidemic slows down its pace in Hubei province, outbound travel curbs will also soon be lifted.
