Alappuzha, otherwise known for its backwaters and houseboats, will soon have a Labour Movement Museum with exhibits showcasing the history of the global labour movement.

This museum will be the first of its kind in India and will display exhibits that are a proof of the events that structured the labour movement across India, particularly that of Kerala.

Being executed by the Muziris Project Limited, the Labour Movement Museum is an initiative under the Alappuzha Heritage Tourism Project.

The Labour Museum will be a visual narrative of the class struggle and history of Kerala&rsquos workers movement.

The museum will be representative of the region&rsquos social and cultural history and will be an information depository for scholars undertaking special research or writing about the labour movement.

The heritage project also entails nurturing of the Miyawaki forest, renovation of the Alappuzha Sea Bridge, Saukar and Makham Masjid and construction of the the Gujarati heritage centre. When the restoration of the heritage structures is complete, the museums will be opened to the public.
