Mumbaiites know the struggle to get from one end of the city is all too real. One of the worst traffic-congested cities in India (beat by Bengaluru, of course), it is a pain to travel from &lsquotown&rsquo or South Bombay to even the suburbs, and to Navi Mumbai is out of the question altogether.

While most people opt for the train when travelling long distances, a new option will now make life in a metro a lot easier hovercrafts You heard that right. As per reports, the City Industrial and Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) plan to introduce hovercraft service for passengers to travel till Navi Mumbai.

Citizens would be able to travel from Nerul in Navi Mumbai to Gateway of India in less than 30 minutes. Presently, it takes over 2 hours to cover the same distance from the outskirts of the city to South Bombay.

As per reports, the boards are currently in the process of acquiring these hovercrafts&nbspfrom a Russia-based company. The vessels are said to be able to hold a capacity of 50 people per hovercraft. The project is also anticipated to cost 100-crores at the beginning. The passenger fare, however, has not yet been decided.
