You may think you have seen the best of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, but you'd be wrong. We hear that the Indian government plans to establish a new hill station at Zojila Pass.
Set to be planned between the serene 18-km stretch of Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir and Zojila tunnel in Ladakh, officials say that it will be more alluring than the famous Davos in Switzerland. As emphasised by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the new project will help develop employment opportunities in both the union territories and boost India&rsquos economy.
Considering the high snowfall that Davos receives annually, Zojila Pass, located at an altitude of 11578 ft, ideally fits the required parameters needed to establish the new tourist destination. However, it is unlikely that it will hold any important events similar to the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos due to the heavy snowfall it experiences during winters
The new hill station is set to get advanced infrastructure, roads, transport, water supply, and communication facilities.
To further expand the station, a nominal rupee one lease rent will be made available. Moreover, several plots will be put on sale for restaurants, hotels, residential societies, and resorts in the area.
Meant to be designed by a Swiss architect, it is expected to promote essential public-private investment, attract tourists, and create new job opportunities in the region.
