Trying to leave the monotony of 2020 behind, 65% percent of the Indians plan on seeking out adventure experiences and explore new destinations in 2021.

That's what a survey conducted by InterMilers found. It received around 11,500 responses from across India with people talking about their reason to travel - which included relaxation, change of location, leaving behind the monotony of 2020, etc. The survey observed the rapid increase in consumer confidence post the rollout of vaccines and other interventions to counter the spread of COVID-19.

While 65% of the respondents are planning leisure getaways amidst the pandemic-related movement restrictions, 54% plan on travelling through these restrictions to reunite with their friends and family. This large section of like-minded people is entirely dependent on safety and hygiene measures alongwith the travel advisories charted out for different regions.

Instagram trends of budget-friendly backpacking hostels, road trips with the gang in campervans,  and work-centric rentals have boosted interest in travel among people.

There's a rise in Indians travelling under the concept of a work-cation or staycation wherein, people can experience a change of scenery while meeting their work obligations and also spend time with their friends and family.

Since the breakout of COVID-19, things have become unpredictable for the travel industry. As a result, flexible travel plans are on high demand, found the survey. Variation of dates, and travel advisories at a minimum cost are in high demand among Indians as around 62% of them request for last-minute free cancellations.

The survey also found that though business and corporate travel was among the first to recover yet, they stand third on the travel priority list of respondents.

Another interesting survey find - around 39% expressed varying levels of discomfort at the idea of travelling in public transport.
