If you have dreamed of staying in an X-Men mansion, sleeping in the Ferrari Museum at the carmaker’s headquarters in Maranello, or checking out Carl Fredricksen’s cosy house from the Disney-Pixar movie “Up,” you’re in luck.
Short-term home rental company Airbnb has launched its “Icons” project which will allow guests to stay in iconic properties both real and fictional. There will be exclusive experiences tailored to each listing for visitors to enjoy. For instance, those who stay in the “Purple Rain” house in Minneapolis, Minnesota will be able to listen to rare and special tracks by legendary musician Prince in a one-off music session. Those opting for the Ferrari Museum experience will be driven around the Fiorano Circuit by Scuderia Ferrari ambassador driver Marc Gené.
If you have Olympics fever then stay at the Musée d’Orsay’s iconic clock room, which has been transformed into a luxurious bedroom by Mathieu Lehanneur, from where you get a front-row seat to see the opening ceremony along the river Seine. The X-Men mansion in Westchester, New York will have you stay in a 2D animated room where you can discover your mutant abilities and train in the Danger Room. Closer to home, Hindi film actor Janhvi Kapoor will host you at her family home in Chennai, Tamil Nadu for an overnight stay.
Airbnb has initially launched 11 “Icons” with more to come throughout the year. To apply for one of these experiences, you will have to fill out a profile and explain why you want it. The company will pick about 4,000 winners over the year. Most of the featured properties or events are free or cost under INR 8,345.
