On a warm early December morning, I could finally tick Gujarat off from my list of states that I have visited in India. The 25th on my list, out of a total of 29 Indian states, Gujarat was there in front of me. I was in Ahmedabad and Renaissance Ahmedabad was going to be my home away from home for two days.

There are resorts in popular and offbeat places, there are quaint boutique hotels, there are humble (and not so humble) homestays, and then there are city hotels. I usually find myself moving away from city hotels. But that was not the case this time. The reason I picked Renaissance Ahmedabad as my hotel of choice during my short stay in the city mostly had to do with my desire and intent to learn about the city, as much as I could in that short period of time. And the hotel's Navigator was all I needed to get to know the city.

Renaissance Ahmedabad is a mere 20 minutes drive from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a good news for all kinds of travellers, especially those who don't have much time in the city and can't afford to waste long hours on the road. As stated earlier, the hotel does not come under "typical business hotel". That's because, even if one is in the city for work, a little play time is always welcomed. At Renaissance Ahmedabad, they like to call it Business Unusual. The aim is to help business travellers venture outside board meetings and explore the city's many gems. Providing its guests a way to explore rich local experiences is what the hotel is all about. One of the hotel's features, Renaissance Navigators, was a personal favourite. The Navigator was a local expert who took me around town and let me have my own time of exploration of Ahmedabad's timeless heritage and a true Amdavadi experience. The Navigator's in-depth knowledge of every little aspects of the historic city made my visit to Sabarmati Ashram (a mere 6km away), House of MG and Sidi Sayyed Mosque a fun experience. If you are interested, Adalaj Stepwell is just 12 km away from Renaissance Ahmedabad.

Creativity is strong in Renaissance Ahmedabad. As soon as you step inside (or outside) the hotel, you will be met with many little things that when combined, becomes a larger picture of how a traditional Gujarati dwelling would be. From the iconic stained glasses to little bits and pieces of Gujarati art and architecture to even a faux door on a top wall, there is a fine balance of pure aesthetic joy and fine luxury.

The property has 155 well-appointed guestrooms comprising of six Suites (interconnecting rooms), 48 Superior King Rooms, 36 Superior Twin Rooms, 30 Deluxe King Rooms, 18 Deluxe Twin Rooms, 9 Club King Rooms and 8 Club Twin Rooms. The hotel's three F&ampB outlets Mill & Co., located right next to the hotel lobby, a 24 hours café and a deli R Kitchen, an all-day dining restaurant that serves the best of Indian, Asian and Western cuisine and Kuro--The Asian Bistro that serves authentic Japanese and Sichuan cuisine and specialises in Bento Box. It's not just luxurious stay and good food at Renaissance Ahmedabad, the property also means serious business with its 29,220 sq.ft of indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces. The 2900 sq.ft Ruby Ballroom, that also comes with 16,900 sq ft of open space is perfect for social gatherings and events. The hotel's Club Lounge is unadulterated luxury. Located on the 10th floor, the Club Lounge enjoys exclusivity and the Club Room guests and Suites guests have access to special lounge services.

With all these and more, Jack will never be a dull boy at Renaisance Ahmedabad.
