Karanji Kere, or Karanji Lake, is a paradise for birdwatchers nestled within the city of Mysore. The lake is spread over 90 hectares and is surrounded by a sprawling nature park that was once part of the Mysore Zoo. The park encompasses a butterfly park, the Regional Museum of Natural History, and a walk-through aviary. The aviary, considered one of India's largest, is home to a remarkable variety of bird species, including peafowl, wild geese, and the majestic Sarus Cranes, alongside 147 other avian residents. The butterfly park on a small island within the lake showcases over four dozen species of these delicate creatures. Visitors can rent pedal boats or enjoy a boat ride with a boatman, allowing them to experience the serenity of Karanji Lake. The lake is open from 830 am to 530 pm daily, except on Tuesdays, and admission is a nominal fee of INR 10 per person.

Mysore Silk Factory
No visit to Mysuru is complete without experiencing the allure of the renowned Mysore Silk sarees. These sarees, woven with pure silk threads interwoven with gold and silver, epitomize exquisite craftsmanship and elegance. A visit to the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) factory provides a captivating glimpse into the artistry of silk production. Witness the journey from raw silk threads being spun into fibres to their transformation on looms into luxurious silk fabric. The fabric is then dyed in vibrant hues, creating the stunning Mysore Silk that is revered across the country. After the factory tour, indulge in some shopping at the KSIC outlet, where you can find an array of Mysore Silk sarees, scarves, and other silk clothing. The factory is open on all days except Sundays from 730 am to 430 pm, and the tour is complimentary.

St. Philomena's Cathedral
Standing as an architectural marvel, St. Philomena's Cathedral is one of Mysore's prominent landmarks. This Neo-Gothic style church, one of the tallest in Asia, pays homage to St. Philomena, a revered Catholic saint. It replaced a smaller church built by Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar to accommodate the increasing number of European settlers. The breathtaking twin spires, soaring 175 feet high, are fascinating and double the church's beauty. Marvel at the enchanting stained glass windows sourced from France and behold the marble altar holding the St. Philomena relic. The cathedral welcomes visitors every day of the week from 5 am to 6 pm, with no entry fee.

Kishkinda Moolika Bonsai Garden

Established by Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, this enchanting garden houses over 450 varieties of bonsai trees. Spanning across four acres, the garden features a meandering stream and showcases magnificent statues of Lord Buddha and playful monkeys. Every December, a bonsai convention is held, offering a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the art of bonsai. The garden's collections are divided into different sections, such as Rashi Vana, representing the Indian Zodiac system, and Nakshatra Vana, depicting the 27 stars of Indian astrology. Explore this tranquil oasis from 9 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm, with an entry fee of INR 20 per person.
