Among the biggest festivals celebrated in the lively state of Goa, Shigmotsav kick-started at Ponda on March 14. Primarily a Hindu festival, it honours the return of the warriors. Tradition says that these brave ones had gone to war during Dussehra, fighting the invaders, and come home during spring. Music, dance, delicacies and floats, the spirit of spring will keep shining till March 27. Dressing up in colourful outfits, holding multi-coloured flags and playing large musical instruments like the Dhol Tasha and flutes, the people herald the warriors. Float parades depict the life of aGoan as well as mythological stories. Traditional folk dances such as Ghode Modni and Fugdi are performed on the streets along the procession. And one can gorge on the delicacies lined on the streets.
