Kolli Hills, perched in Tamil Nadu's Namakkal district at an altitude of 1200 metres, grace the Eastern Ghats majestically. The hills owe their name to Ettukai Amman, also known as Kollipavai, the revered deity believed to safeguard this enchanting region. Just 45 kilometres away from Namakkal town, Kolli Hills are renowned for their medicinal herbs and plants flourishing on the slopes. Adding to its allure, the hills have a historical significance dating back to 200 CE when King Valvil Ori, a benevolent ruler, successfully safeguarded the region from the powerful Chera, Chola, and Pandiya dynasties. Agaya Gangai Waterfalls 

The cascading waterfall plunges from about 300 feet, creating a picturesque backdrop for a refreshing dip or simply enjoying the serene surroundings. One must descend around 1000 steps to reach the waterfall, making the trail a perfect spot for trekkers. 

Vasalurpatty Lake 

The man-made lake offers a tranquil setting, perfect for leisurely walks along its shores. Visitors can also enjoy boating activities, enhancing their experience at this picturesque location.

Siddhar Caves 

Exploring the Siddhar Caves allows visitors to delve into the mystical past of Kolli Hills. These caves hold great spiritual significance and are associated with ancient sages and mystics believed to have meditated here. Tourists can also explore other caves, like Bogar, Agastya, Korakka Siddha, and Kalaanginatha Siddha, located in the vicinity.

Tampcol Medicinal Farm 

Maintained by the Tamil Nadu Medical Plant Farms & Herbal Medicine Corporation Limited (TAMPCOL), the farm is an ideal spot to explore the region's diverse flora and learn about its medicinal properties. There is also an on-site store to buy medicines from. 

Botanical Garden 

When visiting Kolli Hills, a trip to the Botanical Garden is highly recommended. Situated just 3 kilometres from Semmedu, the Botanical Garden offers a picturesque Rose Garden, a stunning viewpoint, eco-friendly cottages, and a Children's Park.

Despite being lesser known, the hills and forests of Kolli Hills hold hidden gems like Agaya Gangai Waterfalls, Seeku Parai, and Selur Nadu viewpoints, accessible to those willing to take on challenging quests. This place&nbspcaters to nature lovers, trekking enthusiasts, tourists, and meditators alike. Other escapes in the vicinity include Masila Falls and Namma Aruvi. 

What To Buy

The region is known for its coffee, pepper, rice and honey. All of these products are found mainly in SolakkaduKolli Hills. And if you want to buy traditional fruit varieties, visit their local markets set up on alternative days.

Getting There

For locals, plenty of road routes connect to this hill station. There is direct bus connectivity from Namakkal via Sendamangalam. Another way is from Salem via Mettala, Mullukurichi, and Nariankadu. If you are travelling via air, Trichy Airport is the nearest airport, about 133 km away from Kolli Hills&mdashcommute by local conveyance or private taxi to reach your destination. And for train commuters, Salem Junction is the nearest railway station, about 88 km far. This follows another round of travel via local transport or private cab to reach the hills.

Best Time To Visit

The off-beat destination is open for visitors throughout the year. However, June-October is considered the most preferred time.
