From brownies to gingerbread cookies to plum cakes, sweets are indeed the flavour of the Yuletide season. Thankfully, in Delhi, you have plenty of options to choose from during this time. OT selects some of the best.
Wenger&rsquos
Of course, we would start with Wenger&rsquos. This household name was set up in 1924 as a catering outfit for British troops in Delhi. In 1926, they established a tea room and confectionery at Kashmere Gate. It shifted its base to the more iconic Connaught Place location you are familiar with today, sometime during the late 1920s or early 1930s.
Their excellent waffles and shakes are what Wenger&rsquos is most famous for and rightly so&mdashthey shouldn&rsquot be missed. Other Christmas treats include plum cakes, puddings, gingerbread cookies and more.

This bakery started its journey in 2009. In the past decade, it has become well known for its wide range of cakes in its menu. Of special mention are the several varieties of cheesecakes it specialises in. The Big Chill Cafe
There are several outlets of The Big Chill Cafe in New Delhi, but Khan Market seems to be the hub of these cafes in the city. As many as three outlets (two cafes and a cakery) operate out of this posh, upscale market. A visit to these cafes is recommended, if you want to revel in their retro, noirish ambience created by the many old-school posters of classic movies on the walls and the use of fitting, mood-setting music. The Italian fare (pastas and pizzas) in these cafes is quite popular and well regarded. The banoffee pie, however, is a hands-down favourite among cafe regulars, while the velvet cakes also garner significant praise and love.

Defence Bakery
Another long-running institution that has been running for nearly six decades now, Defence Bakery opened its shutters in 1962. While it is best known for its range of pure, unadulterated, chemical-free breads, there are sweet offerings aplenty from the bakery as well. The bakery&rsquos loyal clientele have a soft spot for the cookies, muffins and cupcakes. However, the bakery also has an excellent line-up of classic as well as special cakes&mdashfrom tiramisu and fudge cakes to Belgian chocolate, Kit Kat, fruit-and-nut cakes, and many more goodies. Another excellent reason to visit Defence Bakery during Christmas is the extremely nominal prices of its treats.
