Lucerne is a city of churches and town squares. The gateway to central Switzerland, Lucerne, sits on Lake Lucerne, a town steeped in history and beauty. When you are done exploring the quaint alleyways and looking at the pastel-coloured houses, you might want to refuel before exploring this gorgeous Swiss town. The al fresco caf&eacutes in the city offer a delightful selection to choose from, with spectacular views of the streets and mountains.

"I have explored the whole city walking and discovered that you can easily tout this place as the "capital of restaurants and caf&eacutes", in Switzerland," said Kriti Singhal, a travel influencer. "I saw hundreds of restaurants in a stretch of just 1 km. I love how they have set up the open sitting concept in every restaurant where you can enjoy the stunning lake and mountain views," she added.

Here are some beautiful cafes in Lucerne where you can enjoy a hot cuppa and a savoury or sweet snack on one of your pit stops.

Luz See Bistro

With gorgeous views over Lake Lucerne, Luz See Bistro lends a cozy vibe without being too compact. With large windows overlooking the lake, the art deco interior is spacious and airy with a vintage vibe. The café also has a terrace which gets crowded on days when the weather is warm and sunny outside. The menu is brief but versatile, with an interesting selection of tea and coffee options. You can try their all-day breakfast, which is the most popular choice of locals and tourists here, along with their burgers, salads, and select brunch favourites.

Mardi Gras Luzerne

Mardi Gras Luzern sits pretty, not too far from the river bank, with its artsy interiors and a beautiful terrace to enjoy the sun. The quirky interiors of the café are a sight to behold, with walls covered with modern and classical art pieces. Peruse the wide selection of national and international newspapers in the café while you sit at a table by the window and enjoy a cup of coffee. With French and Moroccan influences in the decoration of the place, the delicious breakfast selection is the biggest draw.

Mill'Feuille

Head to one of the most sought-after breakfast places in Lucerne and enjoy the scenic views while you munch on a delicious lunch. Located right by River Reuss, Mill'Feuille serves breakfast until 6 pm with a delectable menu that includes traditional breakfast options of baked goods, both sweet and savoury, as well as innovative items, such as the quark with berry compote and muesli. Their signature "Mill'Feuille" steak tartare is a must-try, made more delicious with the river view when you take it up on the sunny terrace.

Blend Teehaus

This is a very popular tea and coffee shop in downtown Lucerne, very close to the lake, with a hip atmosphere interspersed with a warm Middle Eastern vibe. Grab one of the few tables at the Blend Teehaus and enjoy their excellent beverage selection and vegan preparations. With lip-smacking hot and cold dishes on the menu, there is a lot that the café offers, catering to varied palettes.

Wirtshaus Taube

The Wirtshause Taube is a charming café in a medieval building that perfectly blends history and gastronomy. Whether you dine indoors or enjoy the fresh air at the al fresco seating, the ambience will captivate you. The Chapel Bridge r&oumlsti, one of their signature dishes, is not to be missed. This delectable combination of crispy r&oumlsti, topped with bacon and cheese, is worth waiting for. Whether you're seeking a romantic dinner or a peaceful gathering with friends, this riverside café offers an inviting setting to create memorable moments.
