Come 3rd February, the streets of Kala Ghoda will transform into workshop areas, theatre, and dance stages, while the area's restaurants will curate their menus accordingly. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF) is back This is one of the country's largest multicultural arts, crafts, urban design and architecture fetes. The nine-day festival was founded in 1999 and has become one of the biggest street art festivals in India. And it will be choc-a-bloc with visitors from Mumbai and across the world.
The Arts
At the famed festival, there is something exclusive for everyone, including children. There are special programs, workshops, and events for them throughout the festival. You can also attend cinema-related proceedings, watch dance performances, sample delicious cuisine, go on heritage walks, and even participate in literature events at the David Sassoon Library. There will be a surfeit of workshops with dancers, musicians, writers, jewellery makers, waste up-cyclers, painters, etc. You will not know when the day is at an end. Additionally, the KGAF is an excellent place to pick up handicrafts, and associated products, to your heart's content Every year, all the money raised from the festival is put into the restoration efforts undertaken by the Kala Ghoda Association.
The Area
Kala Ghoda, the area, which gets its name from the now-removed equestrian statue of England's King Edward VII, and replaced by a magnificent horse statue, called the 'Spirit of Kala Ghoda', designed by architect Alfaz Miller, and sculpted by Shreehari Bhosle, is amid a plethora of culture preservers in Mumbai. You can walk over or cab it to the Jehangir Art Gallery, Max Mueller Bhavan, museums such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya, and National Gallery of Modern Art, Institute of Science, Bombay Natural History Society, Elphinstone College, and of course, the David Sassoon Library. The area also offers various restaurants and cafes, designer boutiques, etc.
