From being built to shoot a fantasy movie series to hosting one of the most talked about annual spring festivals, here is a list of 6 fairytale destinations from around the world that will make you do a double-take.

Kawachi Fuji Garden, Tokyo, Japan

Cherry blossoms have fascinated so many people for so long. But Japan&rsquos wisteria domes and tunnels are talked of the world over. With beautiful canopies hanging over tunnelled archways that you can walk under, the Kawachi Fuji gardens are what every traveller&rsquos dreams are made of. 

Setenil de las Bodegas, province of Cadiz, Spain 

&lsquoLiving under a rock&rsquo has never been so literal before. The Spanish town of Setenil de las Bodegas is unbelievable even to imagine, with its 3000 residents living in houses built smack into a giant rock. Nestled among jutting rock formations, this town lies along a river gorge. With its outcropping of rocks offering natural shade to the town below, Setenil de las Bodegas is a picturesque destination to explore.

Angel Oak, South Carolina, USA 

If you have watched Peter Pan and Tangled, you might be reminded of the deep jade jungles from the movies looking at this ancient oak tree in South Carolina&rsquos John&rsquos Island. The forest looks like something straight out of a magical fairytale that holds the secrets of the universe. Take a trek inside the woods but make sure to not get lost.

Calling out all the Lord of the Rings fans. This village in New Zealand needs no introduction. With little ivy-covered hole-in-the-wall houses scattered about, you might feel like you have found a door to Middle-earth. This village was built especially for the shooting of the movies and still gets hundreds of tourists every year.

Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar

The native African Baobab trees are often referred to as the &lsquoTree of Life&rsquo with their unturned roots on the top and the bulbous trunks, these trees are something so strange but so fascinating as well. These ancient trees are nearly 100 feet tall and populate the island of Madagascar. The trees are also believed to be closer to God, with its roots shooting upwards and many people consider them sacred. Go on for stunning photographs and maybe make a wish or two.

Krzywhy Domek, Poland 

You might feel dizzy at first or think you have developed a squint when looking at this building. But Krzywy Domek is actually built just as you see it. Literally meaning &lsquocrooked house&rsquo in Polish, the building was designed by Szotynscy & Zaleski, who were inspired by Polish fairy tales when conceptualising this building. It is located in Sopot, Poland and houses bars, offices and restaurants that attract a lot of tourists.
