The Orient Express is one of the most famous and luxurious trains in the world, but it also has a dark side. The train was the setting of Agatha Christie’s classic novel, "Murder on the Orient Express," where a mysterious murder takes place among the passengers. You can relive the suspense and glamour of the story by boarding the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which runs from London to Venice via Paris and other European cities. The train features restored 1920s carriages, elegant dining cars, and vintage cabins. But don’t let the opulence fool you; there might be a killer lurking among you.

Fare: The prices start from INR 2,94,997 per person for a Twin Cabin, and INR 8,48,610 per person for a Grand Suite.

The Brocken is the highest peak in northern Germany, and also one of the most eerie. The mountain is shrouded in mist for most of the year, creating a phenomenon known as the Brocken spectre, where a giant shadow of a person or an animal appears on the clouds.

The mountain is also associated with legends of witches and devils, as it was the scene of a pact between Faust and Mephistopheles in Goethe’s famous play. You can reach the summit by taking a steam train from Wernigerode, which will take you through scenic forests and valleys. But be prepared to face some spooky sights along the way.

Fare: The “Brockentarif” costs INR 4,673 for a round trip.

If you are a fan of Harry Potter, you will love this train journey that will make you feel like you are on your way to Hogwarts. The Jacobite Steam Train runs from Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland, crossing the stunning Glenfinnan Viaduct, which featured in several Harry Potter movies.

The train itself is a replica of the Hogwarts Express, complete with red carriages and a steam engine. You can enjoy the views of the Scottish Highlands, lochs, and castles, while imagining that you are heading to a magical school. But watch out for dementors and death eaters.

Fare: The fare is INR 5,025 for an adult day return ticket and INR 2,909 for a child day return ticket (16 or under) in standard class.

Switzerland may seem like a peaceful and neutral country, but it has a history of smuggling and espionage that dates back to World War II. One of the most notorious smuggling routes was the Glacier Express, which connects Zermatt and St. Moritz in the Swiss Alps. The train was used by spies, smugglers, and resistance fighters to transport gold, jewels, documents, and weapons across the border. The train still runs today, offering spectacular views of mountains, glaciers, and bridges. But be careful who you trust on board, as you might encounter some shady characters.

Fare: Prices vary according to the availability of Swiss pass and class.
