Also known as Mansoori among locals, the charming hill station of Mussoorie is known for its plunging waterfalls, winding roads, renowned boarding schools, and hilly terrain covered with dense deodars and chestnut trees, interspersed with local settlements and colonial bungalows. This bustling hill town offers a perfect getaway with cascading waterfalls, meandering roads, colonial bungalows, and lush forests. While most visitors tend to focus on the prominent attractions, the real charm of Mussoorie is found beyond the easily visible. Here is an itinerary that focuses on offbeat trails.

DAY 1

Morning

Start early and head to Hathipaon. Located on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road, is a hidden gem in Mussoorie. It boasts dense woods, the melodies of forest birds, and an isolated meadow where local boys often play cricket. The area's seclusion means it's not visited by regular tourists. Hathipaon is known for two main attractions: Cloud End and the Park Estate.

Cloud End, built in 1838 and now a renovated heritage resort, was once the residence of Major Edmund Swetenham. It's surrounded by woods and offers several trekking trails. The estate also houses a captivating museum with paintings, crockery, books, and other artefacts.

Next explore the rich history of George Everest's House, also known as Park Estate, just 6 km from the Library Bus Stand in Mussoorie. This historic building, dating back to 1832, was the residence of Sir George Everest, the first Surveyor General of India. Notably, Sir George played a pivotal role in completing a section of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India, covering a distance of approximately 2,400 km. The house offers breathtaking views of the Doon Valley and the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. Despite being relatively well-preserved, the walls are unfortunately covered with graffiti. This historical gem falls under the jurisdiction of the Tourism Department.
