In the race to explore popular tourist destinations, we often overlook the road less travelled. Mousuni Island, nestled near Namkhana in West Bengal, India, is a hidden gem awaiting your discovery. Located on NH 117, this serene island boasts the mesmerising confluence of the sea and river, kissed by golden sunshine on glistening sands.

Mousuni Island is nestled within the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, forming a part of the expansive Bengal deltaic islands. To the west, it is separated from the Sagar Islands by the Muri Ganga, while the Chinai River flows between Mousuni and the Bakkhali coast in the east. This tranquil island treats visitors to stunning vistas of Ganga's distributaries gracefully merging with the Bay of Bengal. Its long, slender beach is adorned with the characteristic mangrove vegetation of the region.

Despite its long geological history, Mousuni Island remains relatively unknown in the realm of tourism, only recently gaining recognition among enthusiasts of offbeat destinations. Unfortunately, the island faces a pressing threat due to global warming, with rising sea levels and an uptick in cyclones and coastal flooding jeopardising the natural beauty of this Bengal gem.

Whether you visit in the monsoon, winter, or early spring, Mousuni promises a slice of paradise, especially for bird enthusiasts.
