In his time spent in the lap of nature where nature essayist Henry David Thoreau charted out the ways to spend a life close to the earth with minimal expenses, he wrote severely on nature. In one such writing, he wrote that a lake "is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature." The line masterfully encompasses the humble beauty of water bodies that lakes are. As such, the state of Tamil Nadu in India is dotted with several serene Earth's eyes. Apart from being home to Lake Pulicat, the second largest brackish water lake in Tamil Nadu, it accommodates several other natural, artificial, ancient, and modern lakes that enhance life in various ways. These little water bodies not only moderate the climate conditions but also assist in the enhancement of natural beauty. As it descends, the river creates a stunning series of cascades, culminating in the impressive Pykara Falls. The final two falls, measuring 55 metres and 61 metres respectively, are renowned attractions located approximately 20 kilometres from Ooty. Further downstream, at about 21 kilometres from Ooty along the Ooty-Mysore road, lies the picturesque Pykara Lake. Boating on this lake is a delightful experience, complemented by the convenience of a nearby restaurant.
