Mussoorie, also known as the Queen of Hills, is a hill station in the state of Uttarakhand situated at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayas. It is a popular escapade for tourists from the plains and enjoy the cool and serene atmosphere of the mountains. Mussoorie has many attractions that cater to different tastes and preferences, such as nature lovers, adventure seekers, history buffs, and spiritual seekers. Here are some of the best places to visit in Mussoorie that you should not miss on your trip.
Kempty Falls is one of the most famous and visited waterfalls in Mussoorie. It is located about 15 km from the main town and can be reached by a car or a bus. The waterfall cascades from a height of about 40 meters and splits into five streams. You can enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls or just admire the beauty of the surroundings. The Kempty Falls is more than just a waterfall—it's an experience. As you walk along the rugged terrain, you'll be greeted by the sweet chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves. The fresh mountain air will rejuvenate your body and mind, leaving you feeling refreshed and energised.
Lal Tibba, also known as the "Red Hill," is a true gem of Mussoorie, located about 6 km from the hustle and bustle of the town. Standing at a height of 2,275 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in the region and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan peaks. From Bandarpunch to Nanda Devi, and from Kedarnath to Srikantha, the view from Lal Tibba is truly awe-inspiring.
Camel’s Back Road is a 3 km long road that runs along a natural rock formation that resembles a camel’s hump. It is one of the best places to enjoy a leisurely walk or a horse ride while soaking in the views of the valley and the Doon city. You can also witness the sunrise and sunset from this road, which are spectacular sights to behold.
Happy Valley is a breathtakingly beautiful valley situated just 2 km away from the main town. This valley is home to a large Tibetan community and offers many attractions to visitors. You can reach Happy Valley either by a leisurely walk or a quick rickshaw ride. One of the main attractions in Happy Valley is the Tibetan Buddhist Temple, which is adorned with colourful prayer flags and houses a magnificent statue of Lord Buddha. Another famous spot in the valley is the Tibetan Homes Foundation, a school and orphanage for Tibetan children. Lastly, the IAS Academy, a prestigious training institute for civil servants, is also located in Happy Valley.
Gun Hill is the second highest point in Mussoorie, located about 1.5 km from the main town. It offers a panoramic view of the town and the Himalayan ranges. You can reach Gun Hill by taking a cable car ride from the Mall Road, which is an exciting experience in itself. Gun Hill also has many stalls that sell snacks, souvenirs, and games. Gun Hill got its unique name from a cannon that was fired every afternoon to indicate the time during the British era
